Shaolin Kungfu & Kickboxing Classes for All Ages

Our beautiful world is full of challenges and is often not a safe place. While no person, authority or government can guarantee our security, we are empowered to take care of our own safety once we face that reality. Staying fit, developing discernment, sharpening intuition and learning self defense go a long way to feeling and being secure. You are never too old or too out of shape to start learning to take care of your self mentally, physically and emotionally. We love beginners and welcome all fitness levels! Our kungfu/kickboxing classes are a vigorous workout that will not only give you self defense basics, it will get you into the best shape of your life!

Shaolin Kungfu – This ancient martial art originated in the Songshan Shaolin Temple in Henan, China. China’s rich cultural history of Buddhism, Yin Yang philosophy, Traditional Chinese Medicine, Five Elements Theory and so on provided a fertile environment for its development. Continuously evolving for the last 1500 years, it originally emerged as a way to support Buddhist practice. The Shaolin Temple had already been practicing Buddhism and Kungfu since it was first constructed when Bodhidharma (Damo) arrived from India. As it was Damo who introduced Chan (Zen) to the monks, he is considered the first patriarch of Chan Buddhism in China. It is at this point that Shaolin Kungfu emerged as the practice of Chan meditation through movement. Kungfu is a complete workout that develops strength, balance, flexibility, stamina, and explosive power with stretches, plyometric drills and calisthenics. In addition to the incredible physical conditioning you receive, the memorization of routines will sharpen your memory and strengthen your concentration.

Kickboxing – Learn basic kicking, striking, blocking, footwork and sparring skills for defense and attack. This is a nurturing environment that gives students the room to work out and transcend their fears. Benefits include practical self defense skills, improved fight/flight response and a healthy sense of security.
